What is Occupational Therapy?
Paediatric occupational therapy (OT) is a specialised branch of occupational therapy that focuses on addressing the developmental needs of children aged 0 - 18 years. Paediatric OTs work with children to enhance their skills and abilities in various areas of daily life, promoting independence and participation in activities that are important for their well-being.

Values
Protea Occupational Therapy practices with the following values:
Personal
Each child is unique, learns differently and at their own pace. Holistic intervention is be based on individualised strengths and interests to increase engagement, community participation and independence.
Play
A child's main occupation is to play and learn. Play is a natural way a child understands their world, express their feeling and communicate their experiences. Therapy will be fun and engaging to develop skills.
Purpose
Evidence-based treatment approaches are used to achieve functional independence and outcomes for the child and their family.
Partnership
Intervention is team-based and cohesive. It is important to openly communicate and problem solve with parents, teachers, schools, teacher-aids, child-care centre/pre-schools and other allied health professionals to ensure skills are generalised across all environments.
Types of Services
Individualised Consultation
Intervention services tailored to your child's goals and interests. You child will learn new skills in a fun and exciting way.
Social Groups
Social groups, such as Westmead Feelings Program, will assist your child to develop conversation skills, emotional regulation management, listening, turn taking, negotiating and problem solving.
School & Home Visits
Intervention can be provided in the home or school setting to assist in liaising with teachers and generalisation of skills from the individualised consultations.
Assessment & Reports
Standardised assessments can be provided with a formalised report if needed for school, NDIS or paediatricians.
